Squeeze Me

While clearly not practical in all situations, Oeuf’s Squeeze Me Mittens are a sweet idea. A pair of adult-sized mittens with a pair of kid-sized mittens sewn on allow you to hold hands with your kiddo, keeping both of your hands warm.  Fair trade made in Bolivia of 100% alpaca wool.

Make a Wish

picture name

A collaboration between childhood friends and now long distance business partners (Europe and the Middle East), Ce Que Je Vous is a new line of children’s sleepwear. The name translates from French as “All  wish for…”  These pieces are so thoughtfully developed - a pirate, a princess, a fairy and a superhero. Each sleep costume comes with character accessories and a bedtime story printed on a hankie. Even the hang tag is considered as it rolls to form a magic wand.

Heads and Tails

Oeuf always has a nicely designed line of kids clothes and their new Fall collection is no exception. I’m especially impressed with their selection of hand knit accessories created by a Bolivian Fair Trade cooperative. Hats with animal ears and coordinating paw slippers - how can they not make you melt just a little bit?

Want to make easy work of creating a Halloween get-up? Green long sleeved tee + green pants + alligator accessories = great costume. And you know there’s no way these cute combos are getting packed away after the holiday - perfect for imaginary play all year long!

Tip Toe Through the Sweet Tarts

Do you as the kid monitoring, candy inspecting, responsible trick-or-treating chaperon don your own costume? For two months you’ve listened to your seven year old vacillate between a mad scientist and a ninja turtle on a daily basis and quite frankly you just want the whole thing to be over and done with so you can raid his sugary loot while he’s in bed.

But come on, it is Halloween and you want to make some sort of effort so brainstorming begins on how one might create the biggest impact with the least amount of effort.

Mothers rejoice! A pair of Em and Sprout’s adorable handmade character shoes and perhaps a set of vampire teeth or kitty ears and you’re good to go. Available in women’s sizes 4 through 11 and for envious fathers she can accommodate men’s sizes by special request.

Wee Walkers

Seriously, is there anything cuter than a baby shoe (except maybe the chubby toes that fit inside them)? See Kai Run has consistently designed great kid’s shoes and their new Fall ‘09 line is no exception. They’ve added a new walker line and the Smaller baby bootie line in sizes 18-24.

And to celebrate the launch of their new collection they’re giving away a season’s worth of shoes! Pretty great, right? One lucky winner will have the choice of receiving ALL of the girls or boys styles from either the See Kai Run or Smaller lines (that’s up to 10 pairs of shoes.) One winner will be picked on September 1, 2009. Enter here.

Soiled

Soil is a small batch and one-of a kind, line of clothing and accessories designed and sewn by Colorado based Ramona Danso.  I am head over heels for this kids clothing “reminiscent of storybooks, nursery rhymes and clothing styles from (her) own childhood.”

And the names!  Oh the names…Library Day Dress, Pinocchio Suspenders, Chimneysweep Shorts, Sandbox Knickerbockers and Timmy Jeans (as in, “What’s that Lassie, who fell down the well?”)  Sizing ranges from 6 months up to a childs 8 and custom orders are available.  Go shop.

Now I ask you, have you ever seen a girls t-shirt that celebrates the accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt?!

I think the concept behind this vintage styled, new line of kids tees is brilliant. 1st Heroes Tees (boys and girls) from Peek…Aren’t You Curious? introduce your kids to the likes of Olympian Wilma Rudolph, Astronaut John Glenn and baseball great Jackie Robinson among others. A nice spring board to learning more about amazing historical role models.

The Aussie Polka

picture name

Color lovers rejoice! May I introduce Polka: Wearables for Small Folk. This Australian designed, Scandinavian inspired children’s clothing line is a riot of bold hues in daring combinations. Decidedly international, Polka celebrates Tokyo street fashion, Nordic knits, Polish traditional folkwear, Alaskan Eskimos, Danish design and a little Viking love.

Polka is currently only available in Australian brick & mortar stores but can be found in plenty of swell online shops that ship around the globe. Spend some time exploring the entire line on Polka’s brilliant, graphic-happy web site.

Far from Quiet on the Western Front

picture name

Have you ever had that experience where you see someone’s creative endeavor and it’s so unbelievably good that it almost physically hurts? Well, I feel those pangs every time I see the work of Kathie Sever and her custom clothing line Ramonster. With it’s distinctly American lines, Ramonster mixes western wear, a rockabilly sensibility, mad embroidery skills and a healthy dose of humor. I love her description of the design process involved in creating her custom clothing - read about it here.

Below is a selection of children’s clothing she’s created for customers. And because I just couldn’t help myself, you’ll also find a mosaic of her Flickr images showcasing work she’s done for the big kids.
