Dinner Time!

8:50 p.m. It’s highly probable most certain that this post has been instigated by the grumbling in my stomach. I am eating dinner far too late this evening and even as I type I’m keeping one eye on the clock waiting for the delivery person. And so all thoughts turn to food. While they recommend against shopping while hungry, I figure it can’t hurt to share some notable foodie web sites.
Gastrokid. I love this blog so much that I’ve included them in my tiny little list of kid resources (left hand column, below the tree trunk). Written by two dads - one living in LA with his family another living in Wales with his. Both cook for their respective families which include young kids and are an endless source of culinary inspiration. One of the things I admire most about them is their straight forward approach to cooking for kids and exposing them a wide range of foods without ‘cooking down’ to them. Exciting news! They have a cookbook coming out in August, which you can pre-order here.
Vegan Lunch Box. Let me preface this recommendation by saying that I am not vegan (although I did try it once for a detox class) but this blog makes me think about it…in a good way. Jennifer McCann packs one amazing lunch box filled with healthy food options that are beautiful and with blog archives that go back to 2005 there is allot of bento brilliance to browse. She also has a cookbook which you can see here.
Edible Crafts. Meaghan Mountford scours the web for the clever, the cute, the candy-coated all of which will make you smile. Bread bites shaped like little piglets, recipes for homemade peppermint patties and cakes that look like cameras - it’s all here. Check out her cookie decorating kits and cookie cookbook here.
Dog Hill Kitchen. Delicious food beautifully photographed. Mother to a kid with a long list of food allergies she’s a good resource for mouth-watering recipes that work around the offending foods (nuts, dairy, etc.) I love her extensive list of favorite children’s books with a food theme.
The Food Section. “All the food that’s fit to eat.” A mostly grown up blog with posts on food in the news, cooking tools, chef gossip, restaurant reviews, culinary events - basically anything food related. Well written with frequent posts.
Below are some recent submissions to the Play Food group I administer on Flickr. Yum!

1. Chocolate and Banana Felt Dessert, 2. Felt Siu Long Bao & Steamer (Mini Steam Meat Bun), 3. Lunch Time Pattern, 4. Linen Shrooms, 5. Another Craft Swap, 6. Oranges, 7. Felt Food Cookies, 8. A Family of Felty Fruit

thanks for my shoutout! I’m so glad to have found this blog because I now adore it (no surprise, as I’m a fan of Mahar Drygoods). I had to immediately add to my blogroll.
