Planet of the Peghead People
![]()

As a kid in the 1970s, Fisher Price toys were a mainstay in the toy box. The folks at FP had created an imaginary world and I owned property: a farm, a ferris wheel, a parking garage, a castle and a cruise ship. And the best part? Each piece of real estate came its own (oddly limbless, although we never questioned why) round-headed inhabitants. These now iconic people are captured above in portraits by talented North Carolina artist Meredith Steele.
Well, being a little bit of a nostalgic sap, you can only imagine my reaction upon discovering the work of Goose Grease - the 21st Century, hand crafted version of the figurines that populated my childhood. They are adorable with their wide set eyes and charming costumes. Below are a few of my favorites including their version of conversation hearts perfect for Valentine’s Day! They also offer a DIY set allowing you to create your own characters.

As a fellow child of the 70’s, I also grew up with those Fisher Price people and just recently purchased some on ebay so that my husband could paint them for me. Check out Play Family House on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5890623) for more great Little People stuff.

These are so cool! I’m always afraid I won’t have the creativity for these kind of DIY crafts. Thanks for the inspirations.

[...] Really, very few things begin with X. And as such I am forced into the corner of cutesy word play, making up terms like x-cellent or x-tra cute… both terms that could be applied to the lovely handmade peg people (and peg people kits) created by Goose Grease. 2009 Jr Soc post: January 14 [...]
